Undergraduate Studies

The school is committed to providing comprehensive music degrees that nurture competent, creative, and successful musicians. Students enjoy numerous solo performance opportunities, main stage productions, ensemble concert tours, and chamber music experiences in an artistic environment. With small class sizes and a dynamic performance faculty, the Townsend School of Music will assist you in reaching your goal of becoming a musical artist. Undergraduate degrees are awarded in the Bachelor of Music in Performance (B.M.), Bachelor of Music Education (B.M.E.) and Bachelor of Arts in Music (B.A.).

Graduate Studies

The school prepares musical artists for professional careers in performance, conducting and church music through The Townsend-McAfee Institute: Graduate Studies in Church Music.

Instrumental Studies

The Instrumental Music Program provides a rich and varied music experience for the college instrumentalist. Instrumental ensembles include the Mercer University Wind Ensemble, Mercer University Jazz Ensemble, Brass Choir, Brass Quintet, Clarinet Ensemble, Flute Choir, Guitar Ensemble, Horn Quartet, Jazz Combo, Percussion Ensemble, Steele Drum Band, Saxophone Quartet and Woodwind Quintet.

Keyboard Studies

Within the keyboard area, students experience a multitude of opportunities in both solo and collaborative experience at the undergraduate and graduate level. The school embraces the ideal of student-faculty engagement by structuring small classes which reinforce personal interaction between students and faculty.

Vocal Studies

Vocal Studies in the Townsend School of Music has a long tradition of excellence. Mercer voice majors continually place high in regional competitions and are routinely accepted into prestigious graduate schools. Mercer alumni are making successful careers nationwide in performance, music education, and sacred music.
