Mr. Swygert has performed, recorded, and toured with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. He can be heard on the Grammy award-winning recording of the Berlioz Requiem from 2003 (Telarc Cd-80627). He has also performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet and members of the ASOBQ. He currently performs as principal trumpet of the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra. Other orchestras with which he has been affiliated include the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the New World Symphony, The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra and the Southwest Florida Symphony. Mr. Swygert has also performed under and with John Williams, Robert Shaw, Robert Spano, Larry Rachleff, Yoel Levi, Pinchas Zuckerman, Richard Marx, Edwin McCain, and Vanessa Williams.

Mr. Swygert also has extensive private teaching experience. He has instructed masterclasses at high schools and middle schools throughout the state of Georgia as well as the statewide Georgia Encore Music Camps at the University of West Georgia. He produces All-State students who have gone on to pursue degrees in music at schools such as the Cincinatti Conservatory of Music, the University of Georgia, and Kennesaw State University.

Mr. Swygert has been on faculty at Emory University, and he will be on faculty with Columbus State University beginning in 2008. He has been on faculty at Mercer since 2006.
