All State Auditions Boot Camp
The instrumental faculty and I would like to invite you and your students, to spend Saturday, November 12, 2016 with us to focus on assisting your students in their GMEA All-State audition preparations. As you know, this is an important event in the students’ musical training and that of your local high school band. We will devote this day to assist your students in everything from how to handle performance anxiety the day of the audition to innovative musical interpretations of the lyrical etude. The morning session will be devoted to performance anxiety, interpretation of the etude, and developing proficiency in performing the major scales. After they return from lunch, we will hold mock auditions so they can try out some of the points addressed in the morning session. The professor for their instrument will be able to provide each student with on-the-spot advice on ways to improve their overall performance and other colleagues in the master class will attain valuable tips thru this session as well.
Our schedule for the day will be as follows:
10 a.m. – Welcome, Faculty Intros, Clinic on Performance Anxiety, Fickling Recital Hall
10:25 a.m. – Proceed to Master Class location
11:30 a.m. - Lunch on your own at Mercer Cafeteria or Mercer Village
12:45 - 3 p.m. – Return to same location for Mock Auditions
We will have Mercer students assisting throughout the day to show the students around and provide directions to the various lunch options.
